Engineering a Smarter Grain Handling Solution
The client required a robust grain chute system capable of efficiently directing product flow while allowing for seamless changeover between outlets. Rather than simply fabricating an existing design, our team managed the entire project, ensuring every component was custom-built for the application.
The project began in our Cutting Lab design office, where we developed a detailed 3D model of the grain chute assembly. This digital design process allowed us to refine the geometry, optimise grain flow characteristics, and integrate the internal mechanical changeover mechanism before a single piece of steel was cut.

Design & Drafting
Our engineering team completed:
- 3D modelling and rendering of the complete grain chute assembly
- Design of the internal mechanical changeover system
- Production-ready fabrication drawings
- DXF profiles for water jet profile cutting
- Material selection and procurement
The detailed design phase ensured every component was accurately manufactured and assembled while minimising production time and material waste.

Precision Manufacturing
Once the design was approved, fabrication commenced in our workshop.
The project involved:
- Water jet profile cutting of all plate components
- Pressing, rolling, shaping and forming of sheet metal sections
- Fabrication and assembly of the chute bodies
- Installation and setup of the internal changeover mechanism
- Integration of pneumatic cylinder actuation for automated operation
Each component was carefully manufactured to achieve precise fitment, ensuring smooth operation and long-term reliability in demanding agricultural environments.

Bringing the Design to Life
What makes projects like this particularly rewarding is seeing a concept evolve from a computer model into a fully functioning engineered product.
The completed grain chutes feature a robust fabricated steel construction combined with a mechanically actuated diverter system. The integrated pneumatic cylinder allows operators to quickly change the grain flow path with minimal manual intervention, improving efficiency and reducing downtime.
