At The Workshop 1924, we specialise in transforming engineering concepts into robust, practical solutions. One recent project involved the fabrication of a series of temporary gantry extensions designed to exacting engineering specifications.
From initial drawing interpretation through to final painting and finishing, our team managed the entire fabrication process in-house, ensuring quality, accuracy, and efficiency at every stage.

Turning Engineering Drawings into Reality
The project began with the review and interpretation of structural drawings supplied by the client. Understanding the design intent, loading requirements, and fabrication tolerances was critical to delivering a product that would meet the project's structural requirements.
Once the specifications were reviewed, our team completed a detailed costing and fabrication assessment before moving into the design phase.
In-House Design & Profile Cutting
To ensure precise manufacture, we produced detailed DXF files for all components requiring water jet profile cutting. This allowed for accurate preparation of plates, gussets, flanges, and reinforcing components while minimising material waste and maintaining consistency across all fabricated sections.
By undertaking the design-for-manufacture process internally, we were able to streamline production and maintain full control over quality outcomes.
Fabrication Process
With materials sourced and delivered, fabrication commenced in our workshop, which included:
- Procurement of all steel materials and components
- Profile cutting of all plate work
- Measuring and cutting of pipe sections
- Assembly of gantry extensions within specified tolerances
- Surface preparation, priming, and painting to client requirements
The gantry extensions featured large-diameter pipe sections fitted with heavy-duty flanges and reinforcing gussets. Accuracy during fabrication and assembly was essential to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity once installed on site.
Quality Through Every Stage
Projects such as this highlight the importance of precision fabrication. Each component underwent careful measurement, fitting, and inspection throughout the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with the supplied engineering documentation.
Following fabrication, the completed gantry extensions were prepared, primed, and painted to provide corrosion protection and a professional finish.
